About Toto

Toto was formed in 1976 by guitarists Jeff Porcaro, David Paich (who at the time were also acclaimed studio players working with Boz Scaggs) and bassist/singer Bobby Kimball. The group took their name from the Latin word that means "all-encompassing" and was determined to explore every style of music.

The third album by Toto, Turn Back, was not a success in 1981. However they came back with their fourth release, Isolation, which contained two songs that were hits with the title track and Roseanna. The album and tour make them a household name around the globe.

After a break of few years, Toto return with the album Fahrenheit in the year 1986. The album is a departure from the ballads on previous albums, and features some heavy rock. This album was their first to go platinum in North America.

During the recording process for the fifth album the group loses their manager and faces financial challenges. They decide to change their name and create a new album with the new producer. The lead vocalist Fergie Frederiksen leaves the band and is replaced by Joseph Williams, son of the legendary film composer John Williams and 1950s actress Barbara Ruick. Joseph Williams is a natural frontman and provides the band with a much-needed boost.

The band released Mindfields in 1999, and then embarks on a huge tour around the world. After a few weeks in Europe The band then travels to Japan for sold-out shows. After a brief break, Toto resumes recording and goes on to record their first live album, Absolutely Live in 1993 which includes a cover of Weezer's song Hash Pipe in response to the band's cover of their hit Africa on a recent tour. Toto's touring group is comprised by drummer Lenny Castro, bassist Shannon Forrest and keyboardist Shem von Schroeck.

The album was a return form for the band and the tour supported it with sold-out shows across North America and Europe. Toto's reunion was bolstered by the inclusion of guitarist Steve Lukather and bassist Shem von Schroeck, who both joined the group.
